My reaction to this release is a far cry from what happened a few years ago when I tried wearing red on my lids and was so traumatized by the event that I didn’t want to do it ever again. because man! — that sh*t was baaaaad. I looked like a woebegon side character from a Dickens novel where it rains all the time…

But the collection’s quad, Candeur Et Experience, is a completely different scene. I mean, if these shadows were food, they’d be your cheat day. I’m talkin’ indulgent. They’re extremely easy to blend — even the red, which hella intimidated me — practically melts into the delicious chocolatey browns.

And those three brown shades? Homie, they’re majorly key, because when you get them them up in the mix, they ground that red so that it doesn’t look as stark and disjointed on the skin. I was so, so TERRIFIED to try this quad, but count on — it all works. The pieces fall into place.

I think that crazy red blush is another standout in the collection. Again, I expected it to be like boarding a train to crazy town, but using it with the lightest touch of a blush brush — like a kitten nose tap — creates a healthy flush.

Of course, the Chanel Joues Contraste blush formula is also just as smooth, easy to blend and outright remarkable as it ought to be with a satiny red like this one, but I expected it to just be too much red when worn with the quad.

But it wasn’t. I think they look completely best together, like that time I saw Beyonce and Idris Elba in a picture from the met Ball.

I also love both of the silky cream shadows — shimmery copper Illuison D’Ombre in Rouge Brule and matte plum illusion D’Ombre velvet in Rouge Contraste (they blend like dreams) — and the Le Stylo eyeliners in Agape and Eros, which are so smooth that they practically moonwalk across your lids.

You know those things in life that you just can’t wrap your head around no matter how hard you try? I mean, things like the fact that choker necklaces are back in fashion, how some people actually enjoy running, or why KIKO doesn’t have a liquid lipstick in their permanent collection?

Well, that I never hear anyone ever talk about Maybelline SuperStay 14HR in Fuchsia forever is one of those.

It is just P H E N O M E N A L.

It’s a slightly muted fuchsia with a matte finish, and I find myself reaching for it no matter the time of the day or year. add to that a formula that is incredibly long-lasting and comfortable to wear, and you get one of my most used lipsticks of all time.

I think it’s also worth mentioning that, normally, I don’t really do drugstore lipsticks. You know, I’ll buy them sometimes, because I want to try them, but then I kinda have to force myself to get out there and wear them.

With Fuchsia Forever? There’s no forcing involved. ALLS.

3. Tarte LipSurgence Matte Lip Tint in Fiery ($24)

Where do I start with this one??

Look at that red! slightly deeper, slightly muted… It’s so grown-up and elegant.

And the texture?! It glides and sort of melts onto the lips like no other lipstick I know. It almost feels like a gel — if that makes any sense. The only box Tarte LipSurgence Matte Lip Tint in Fiery doesn’t tick for me is the one for longevity, but that’s OK, because it fades evenly and, since it comes in crayon form, it’s really easy to reapply.

4. Estée Lauder Pure color Envy sculpting Lipstick in rebellious rose ($30)

Kontrollera detta! The Estée Lauder Pure color Envy sculpting Lipstick in rebellious rose isn’t matte, and it isn’t bold, but I love it all the same. It’s highly moisturizing, exceptionally comfy, and it is sooo beautifying. Whether that’s due to the “sculpting” claim, who knows! but it’s very, very pretty and flattering — perfect for when I want some color on my lips but don’t want to go all out with my usual bolds.

I’ve been using the Hydrating Ritual Replenishing Hair Cleanser ($26), Replenishing cream Conditioner ($28) and supreme Revitalizing Mask ($43) for the past three months, and my hair’s been looking pretty darned fly, if I do say so myself.

My favorite thing about them is how moisturizing they are! My hair tends toward dry because I color it and heat style, but this line doesn’t weigh me down. My hair stays bouncy and doesn’t feel heavy and coated with products.

These also don’t strip my color, and my ends have been looking healthier than they’ve looked in a really long time (no split ends).

Do you ever get on picture kicks where you’re getting tons of them made? I love my iPhone, but nothing beats a picture you can actually hold in your hand or stick in a photo album.

I just realized… I’ve taken at least one picture each day (usually a picture of Tabs or makeup or food) for the past 10 years.

But everything I do is digital, so I don’t have a lot of actual printed photographs lying around — something tangible that you can hold in your hand.

Anyway, I had a bunch of pics of Connor and Tabs printed at Costco over the holidays, and so now I’m hooked on that again. I made a bunch to send with cards, for frames and for the fridge.

4. Grandpa sweaters

En annan sak! Grandpa sweaters. My goodness… So, my mommy gave me these two for Christmas…

She and my daddy checked out a lot last fall to help with the baby, and I guess she observed that I have a penchant for over-sized sweaters, or what I like to call “grandpa sweaters,” so she got me a couple from Mål.

The Mossimo one has an amazing geometric print (ON SALE now FOR $6, WHAT?!), which goes really well with a lot my clothes (I wear lots of gray and black because it hides the cat hair and doesn’t throw shade, haha, when I take pictures for the blog), and this stunning sea foam one. (It’s a little itchy though… I can’t seem to find it online.)

5. Premier Protein

Speaking of hair…when I was starving at the beauty parlor a few weeks back, my stylist pal Alis gave me one of these chocolate Premier protein drinks (30g of protein and only 1g of sugar), and it made me feel like a completely new kvinna!

No, seriously, my brain was on fire, and I felt like I could run a marathon ideal then and there.

OK…maybe not a marathon, but I could have walked a mile, LOL.

I felt really good for hours. I mean, I’ve had protein drinks over the years, but this is the best I’ve ever had.

I’ve only had the chocolate flavor, and it tastes exactly like chocolate milk. Not too thick, and it doesn’t have one of those funky, sugary or man-made sweetener aftertastes. Plus, it doesn’t give me a tummy ache or gas, either, because let’s get real here. A lot of those protein powders make you toot like a mother!

åh! often I like to pour some in my coffee in the morning for an improv mocha.

I’ve seen them at Safeway, but I bought a box of 12 from Costco for $25 (they’re on sale ideal now for $20). There’s also a vanilla flavor and a caramel.

Oh, bear in mind that naturally formulated makeup doesn’t typically last as long as synthetically formulated products, but they aren’t intended to. with that in mind, although these shadow sticks do crease on me after only four hours, they otherwise live up to my high expectations and apply like a dream.

While the Satin Lip cream is a big grittier than I’m used to, it functions practically like a lip liner for Gwyneth, which is by no implies your average liquid lipstick. these days we’ve come to think of liquid lipsticks as a quick drying formula that wears matte, but Juice Beauty’s rendition feels like a literal melted lipstick. It’s glossy, emollient and a little goes a very long way!
